Artist's Comments

I usually try to give at least some anecdotes surrounding the making of any of my doodles. I won't do that this time because I really don't want to explain this one. It's very personal and I don't have yet the emotional distance necessary to discuss it openly. Maybe in a couple of months. I just hope you like it for the time being. Thanks for looking!

Edit: Wow! Wow! Wow! Daily Deviation... This is so cool but I feel kind of bad considering the above text kind of makes me sound like a pretentious jerk trying too hard to be mysterious, so I guess further explainings might be in order. Who knows, it could even be therapeutic. As a couple of you might have guessed the girl in question is Andrea [link] , a girl I was very deeply involved with until not too long ago. She was very special to me and even though the break-up wasn't nearly as bad as those things can sometimes get, I still felt pretty awful for a while. Not gonna get into the bloody details here, suffice it to say that the thought of her didn't exactly cheer me up at the time so when I posted this I really didn't feel up to dissecting it any further.
This drawing was actually made about a year before all this happenned, during a previous mini-breakup (we had a tempestuous relationship to say the least). I often used to tease Andrea about these two polar opposite sides to her personality, one which made the happiest man alive and the other that could terrify me with just a glance. This drawing was about those two sides of this remarkable person who's now so far away from me.
I'm extremely happy to see so many people whom I've never met connecting with it on some level. it's one of the greatest joys someone making these kind of things can experience. Many many thanks to all those that left a message, your kind words mean a lot to me. Thank you so much!

Orchids by ~greysmith is a DD not only for what it is, but what it becomes: http://www.deviantart.com/view/33570080/ An excellent evolution/marriage of traditional and digital conceptual work. (Suggested by `alchemism and Featured by `zeruch)

All summer I have delighted in my orchids and now, even in December they are a source of quiet riotous joy everyday. Still blooming, still bringing me sighs of wonder. This painting is so marvelous and holds me with the same delight. Not because of the obvious inclusion of the gorgeously drawn flowers, but because it spills from your heart. You are an extremely talented artist. I know that you know that (no false modesty needed; one must know with confidence what they can accomplish in order to accomplish it.) But in reaching into your soul and bringing it out to share, you open a door to emotions for others. Very generous indeed. You need not explain in order for me to feel.

Thanks! The hands are actually the part of this drawing I like the most. I'm glad someone else feels the same way.

Thanks for the extremely gracious and kind compliments, they are most most welcome. I love orchids as well, they are beautiful, alien flowers. I've always felt as if some kind of conscience lurked somewhere deep within them. I also used to give them as gifts for the girl in the drawing so they've acquired some added symbolism im my mind, both good and bad. A friend of mine said to me once "what comes from the heart, goes to the heart". It's great advice but it's not always easy for me to manage, so your words make me even happier to think this might be one of those instances. Once again, thanks again for taking the time to write so many nice things about this drawing. I'm really glad you liked it :)

I'm intrigued by the girls expression. I feel almost as if I know her.
The peice doesn't feel as forced as most surrealist peices I see on here.
It's quite beautiful.
